দেশভাগের প্রেক্ষাপটে গান্ধী জিন্না পত্রালাপ

ভূমিকা

জেল থেকে ছাড়া পাওয়ার পর গান্ধী জিন্নাকে দেশভাগ এড়াতে আলোচনার জন্য যে আহ্বান জানান তার কারণ তিনি মনে করতেন ভারতবর্ষ একটা জাতিরই দেশ তাই দ্বিজাতি তত্ত্বের (যা জিন্না মনে করতেন) ভিত্তিতে দেশ ভাগ রদের জন্যেই তার এই প্রচেষ্টা। ১৯৪৪-এর অনেক আগেই অর্থাৎ সেই ১৯০৮ সালেই এই বিষয়ে বক্তব্য রেখেছিলেন তিনি। ‘হিন্দ স্বরাজ’ (Hind Swaraj) পত্রিকার সঙ্গে এক সাক্ষাৎকারে তিনি বলেছিলেন-India cannot cease to be one nation because people be-longing to different religions live in it. The introduction of foreign-ers does not necessarily destroy the nation, they merge in it তারপর তিনি বলছেন In reality, there are as may religions as there are individuals, but those who are conscious of the spirit of nationality do not interfere with one another’s religion. If they do, they are not fit to be considered a nation. If the Hindus believe that india should be peopled only by Hindus, they are living in dreamland-in no part of the world are one nationlity and one religion synonymous terms: not has it ever been so in India.

এরপর হিন্দু-মুসলমানের মধ্যে জন্মগত শত্রুতা (Inborn cnimity) সম্পর্কিত প্রশ্নের উত্তরে গান্ধী বলেছিলেন-The proverbs you have (প্রশ্নকর্তার উদ্দেশ্যে) Quoted were coined when both were fighting: To quote them now is obviously harmful. Should we not remember that many Hindus and mahamedans own the same ancestors and the same blood runs through their veins? Do people become en-emies because they change their religion? Religions are different roads converging to the same point. Wherein is the cause of quar-relling?

যে বক্তব্য গান্ধীজী প্রায় ৯০ বছর আগে পেশ করেছিলেন তা কি আজও সত্য বলে প্রতিভাত হচ্ছে না? গান্ধীর বক্তব্যের মূল নীতিগুলো মনে হয় আজ যেন আরও বেশি করে প্রাসঙ্গিক হয়ে দাড়িয়েছে। তাই গান্ধীর আগের বক্তব্য ও জিন্নার সঙ্গে আলোচনা ও পত্রালাপে তার বক্তব্য মিলিয়ে…..
